The Alexandria First Instance Court on Monday ordered the seizure of a foreign oil tanker for damaging the international internet cable 19 kilometers off the Abu Talat shore in Amiriya.
Investigation revealed that the tanker, B Elephant, carrying the Marshall Islands flag, damaged the cable while passing through the international cable area, despite a warning received by the captain.
Prosecutors have requested information about the value of the damages resulting from cutting the cable, the names of the owner of the ship and the captain to be summoned, and the impoundment of the tanker.
